A.Personal statement

Tao Huiren serves as a Doctoral Supervisor, Chief Physician, Discipline Leader, Professor, and Director of the Department of Spinal Orthopaedics at the General Hospital of Shenzhen University, and is a leading talent at the local level in Shenzhen. Dr. Huiren is the Deputy Director of Orthopaedics and Director of Spinal Surgery, Xijing Hospital, at the former Fourth Military Medical University (now Air Force military Medical University), and Director of Orthopaedics of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University. Dr. Huiren is a visiting scholar at the School of Medicine and Southwest Medical Center, University of Washington, USA; a visiting researcher at the Department of Orthopaedics, Osaka University, Japan; a clinical fellow at the Department of Orthopaedics, School of Medicine of National University of Singapore; and he obtained a temporary medical license from the Singapore Medical Association. Dr. Huiren is a member of the board of the Asia Pacific Spine Society; an active member of the SRS; a member of the Award & Scholarship and Research Grant Committee; a member of the Orthopaedic Branch of Chinese Medical Association; a member of the Spinal Malformation Group; and a member of the Spinal Pain Group and the Spinal Microscopy Group of the Chinese Orthopaedic Association.

Dr. Tao Huiren has been dedicated to the advancement and development of spine deformity correction medicine for many years. He has made five speeches at the annual meeting of the International Scoliosis Research Society, and was the only Chinese scholar to be nominated for the Whitecloud Best Clinical Article Award at the 19th IMAST Conference. He successfully treated the country's first patient with extremely severe ankylosing spondylitis kyphosis ("3-on" folded person). He has published more than 20 SCI papers on spinal deformities in the international top spine surgery magazines Spine and Euro Spine as first or corresponding author. He has hosted three National Natural Science Foundation projects and three provincial and ministerial projects. In 2018, he was recognized as a local-level talent in Shenzhen. In 2019, he was nominated for the 3rd National "Bethune-style Good Doctor" and "Shenzhen Physician Award" and was awarded the title of "Shenzhen Top Ten Outstanding Contributors in Health" by the Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission.
