Director and faculty positions available in speech pathology at Shenzhen University

Shenzhen University (SZU) General Hospital is a newly established comprehensive hospital with an 800 patient-bed capacity, which lies adjacent to the SZU School of Medicine (SZUSOM). The hospital delivers top-level medical care, rehabilitation and disease prevention services, and medical education, and promotes high-class basic and clinical medical research. The SZU General Hospital is financially supported in full by the Shenzhen Municipal government.

 

The SZUSOM comprises an internationally competitive faculty of 160 members that includes 2 foreign Academicians, 3 chief scientists of “973” projects, 5 winners of the NSFC Outstanding Young Scholars award. Faculty members are well supported by various national funding agencies, including the NSFC and the Ministry of Science & Technology and have demonstrated excellence in the research fields of genome stability, cancer & ageing, and metabolic diseases.

 

In 2017, SZU and the University of Sydney reached an agreement to jointly establish the Huanqiang-Shenzhen-Sydney Center of Laryngosurgery and Voice Rehabilitation in the SZUSOM. The Center will focus on the diagnosis and treatment of laryngeal diseases, speech rehabilitation, clinical fellowship training and basic medical research. This joint project has been supported by a gift of 50 million RMB to the SZU and 10 million Australian dollars to the University of Sydney over 10 years from the Huaqiang Group and a matching fund of 50 million RMB to the SZU from the Shenzhen municipal government, and will integrate resources of the SZUSOM, SZU General Hospital, University of Sydney, and the Department of ENT of the SZU first affiliated hospital. This Center will also develop the first MSc program of speech pathology in China.

The Director is expected to be an international leader in speech pathology. Fluency in Mandarin is desirable. The Director will be awarded annual starting salary of 0.7 million RMB with increments depending on experience, as well as housing subsidies and an internationally competitive startup research package.

Junior faculty applicants are expected to possess a PhD (or equivalent) in speech pathology, have a strong publication record and the potential for independent research and teaching. Junior faculty positions will be awarded an annual salary of 0.4 million RMB with increments depending on experience, as well as housing subsidies and an internationally competitive startup research package.
